The Superintendent of Recreation/Safety Coordinator is responsible for the management of a wide scope of recreation, fitness and facility related programs.

The Superintendent of Recreation/Safety Coordinator is responsible for the administrative planning, organization and supervision of Park District recreation services for all age groups in the Warrenville Park District. The primary function of the Superintendent of Recreation is to plan, coordinate, and supervise multiple recreational and educational programs, staff and facilities. This is accomplished by supervising the development, coordination and implementation of recreation and educational activities, supervising staff, overseeing operations of recreational and educational facilities, and managing program budgets. The Superintendent of Recreation also serves as the Park District Safety Coordinator. The Superintendent is responsible for general safety and risk management concerns relating to all agency operations, functions, grounds and facilities. This position is responsible for working with the Executive Director and management team for the formulation, implementation and monitoring of procedural policies as they relate to loss prevention, insurance issues, safety, accident investigation, claims and the settling of losses.

The Superintendent will work with the safety committee and management team to develop and present safety-training programs, develop and implement effective facility and equipment inspection programs and analyze potential loss situations and make recommendations. The Superintendent will conduct accident investigations in cooperation with department managers, work with insurance carriers to report losses, and assist in the successful adjustment of claims. The Superintendent of Recreation/Safety Coordinator will be the chairperson of the agency's safety committee and will be responsible for the documentation of these meetings through an agenda and minutes format.

The Superintendent of Recreation/Safety Coordinator is a full time salaried position working an average of 40 hours per week.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelors Degree in Recreation and Park Administration, or related field. Five or more years supervisory and facility management experience in the parks and recreation field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  2. Certification with NPRA or similar professional organization.

  3. Possess a thorough knowledge of the theory and philosophy of recreation and park management and the ability to interpret this philosophy to others.

  4. A sound background in financial management and budgetary techniques as well as knowledge of personnel management practices. Strong organizational skills and demonstrate ability to influence and direct others.

  5. Must be able to establish priorities, plan and delegate as well as getting tasks accomplished.

  6. The ability to communicate clearly and professionally both written and orally.

  7. The ability to make decisions and take appropriate action and to adapt behavior to changing situations. The ability to work independently, efficiently and attend to details.

  8. Knowledge and experience in managing and measuring the financial success of recreation programs.

  9. Proficient skills in Microsoft Office Software – Excel, Word, Power Point

  10. Valid Class D Illinois Drivers License.
