JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for managing and operating the early childhood pre-school, programs, and summer camps. Program areas include pre-school and pre-school programming, parent/tot programs, and kindergarten enrichment. Direct supervisory responsibility for several dozen part-time employees. Other responsibilities include: Plans, organizes, and manages early childhood programs, summer camps, and some special events to meet the needs of the community. Maintains accurate and current financial & program records and interprets for future planning. Carry out the philosophy of the District regarding early childhood and recreation programming. Responsible for purchasing, ordering and coordinating program supplies and equipment for assigned programs. Engages the marketing function to effectively achieve business goals. Responsible for the implementation of all District policies and development of operational procedures to ensure smooth administration of area of responsibility. Uses knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act to consider request for accommodation. Ensures compliance and consistency through audits and control measures. Prepare annual budget including fee recommendations for areas of responsibility and supervise expenditure of funds once approved by the Board of Park Commissioners. Knowledge of and ability to apply current education practices and learning theories. Ability to develop age-appropriate curriculum and manage staff in effective delivery. Significant ability to establish and maintain positive parent relationships. Knowledge of necessary licensing regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS: The best candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in education, child development, or related field required and at least three years of relevant experience. Prior supervisory experience and valid Illinois driver’s license required.
TARGET HIRING RANGE: $48,000 – $60,000 (commensurate with qualifications) This position is full time, working regular weekends as well as evenings as necessary.
