The Northbrook Park District is seeking an Athletic Field Crew Leader. This is a full-time, year-round position with work being outdoors. Position offers a full benefits package and enrollment in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).
The Crew Leader trains and leads our seasonal maintenance staff, while assisting them with performing maintenance work on our outdoor athletic fields.
Position is 40 hours a week, 7am – 3pm. Schedule from March through November is Tuesday – Saturday, with the remaining months being Monday – Friday.
Must be available for paid on-call duty and possible callback hours to be paid at an overtime rate. May be asked to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, early mornings and overtime as necessary.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Position trains and leads the day-to-day task performance of seasonal staff in athletic field maintenance duties in order to maintain outdoor athletic facilities and parks. This includes preparing outdoor athletic fields for use, to include, but not limited to, fence and goal post installation and dragging and chalking the fields. Position inspects fields and parks for potential hazards and to determine field conditions for playability, taking corrective action as needed, which may include performing repair work.
Position also performs general grounds maintenance, such as mowing, planting and application of chemical substances to stimulate growth or control weeds and pests. Position utilizes automotive equipment, such pickup trucks with trailer attachments and small dump trucks and tractors, as well as a variety of hand and power tools.
During the off-season, position constructs and maintains ice surfaces at outdoor ice rinks and operates trucks and other equipment for the removal of snow from roads, parking lots and walkways.
Completion of four (4) years of high school or equivalent, including two (2) years of experience in athletic field maintenance, general grounds maintenance or turf management.
Must possess a valid Illinois Class D Driver’s License and possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Illinois Pesticide Operators License within three months of hire. Valid Illinois Driver’s License Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is desired, but not required.
Must be able to operate tools and equipment. Must have the ability to work independently and efficiently without direct supervision and able to communicate effectively and follow instructions.

Frequently lifts and/or moves up to more than 50 pounds; allow and encourage use of mechanical or manual assists for lifting above 40 lbs. as a guideline. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate equipment.
