A high school diploma/GED is required and any equivalent of technical school degree or work experience in a related trade and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
The Parks Laborer must be a self-starter and recognize and recommend needed repairs and maintenance. He/she must have the ability to work independently and complete assigned park maintenance under minimal supervision.
Must Obtain Pesticide Operators License within 12 months of hire.
All full-time employees must pass a criminal background check, drug test, and physical exam, all of which are paid for by the Glencoe Park District.
Certifications/License Required: Class D Driver’s License
Required Skills: Experience operating equipment, performing general labor, landscaping or specialized trade skills is desired. This is an entry level position in the Parks Department, the employee would receive extensive on the job training.
The Parks Laborer is responsible for completing assigned routine maintenance tasks including, turf maintenance/sports field maintenance, irrigation maintenance, seasonal fountain maintenance, playground maintenance, special event setup, purchasing, snow removal and Zamboni operations, herbicide application. In addition to parks specific trade work. Additional duties may be assigned by the Director of Parks & Maintenance.
