OVERVIEW: Under the supervision of the Superintendent of Recreation, the Supervisor of Athletics is responsible for a number of duties described below, including: youth and adult sports leagues and clinics to include baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, tennis, and others as budgeted and assigned by the Superintendent of Recreation; mobile seasonal sports programming in parks and facilities focused on engaging youth and families; and for coordinating various school grant programs as identified.
• Developing and maintaining relevant programs and services with overall goals and objectives in accordance with the Recreation Division and the Park District. • Evaluating department programs and services and conferring with the general public regarding interests and needs. • Conferring with representatives of public and private agencies and other community organizations to coordinate recreation/education programming; soliciting the input in the development of program planning to meet community interests and needs; coordinating recreation/athletics programming; scheduling among program areas within the department and maintaining good working relationships among staff members. • Acting as liaison with community school districts, agencies, and other groups to strengthen relationships and better coordinate cooperative services and programming with an emphasis on sports. • Providing direct supervision to relevant full and part time staff as designated by the Executive Director of Parks and Recreation. • Performing varied public relations duties for the promotion of Park District programs and facilities; speaking before local groups and organizations; coordinating promotional and advertising campaigns. • Preparing athletics and relevant mobile programming budgets; maintaining department operations within existing budgetary limitations. • Preparing and submitting appropriate records and reports of department operations and activities necessary to support administrative policy and relevant grant requirements. • Conducting regular meetings with subordinate staff; making presentations regarding department programs and facilities to Park District committees as requested; assisting in representing the interests of the department before the Board as requested. • Inspecting, monitoring, and maintaining those physical facilities utilized within the department operations and activities. • Following all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Supporting all aspects of the Park District safety program. • Performing all other duties as assigned.
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE
• Four-year college degree with major in recreation, physical education, sports management, or closely related field. Master’s degree in related field is highly desirable. • Four years or more of professional experience with at least two years in a supervisory capacity in recreation, sports management, and physical education or closely related activities. • Understanding of basic philosophy underlying a sound community recreation sports program and ability to interpret that philosophy to staff and the public. • Understanding of industry trends and research regarding the importance of leisure in people’s daily lives, and ability to link that knowledge within programs and services specific to local community needs and interests. • Understanding of park district code, policy manuals, and various local ordinances with ability to apply and interpret knowledge in practical situations related to management and operation of program services. • Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of sound business management relating to recreation and sports programming, service delivery, and evaluation. • Extensive knowledge of recreation sports skills and methods, and of community resources available to assist in the formulation of a well-rounded community sports and athletics program. • Extensive knowledge of effective supervisory practices as they relate to personnel, financial, administrative, and program/facilities management. • Working knowledge of the equipment and supplies needed in recreation, sports, and athletics settings. • Ability to perform varied public relations duties for the promotion of park district goals and objectives. • Ability to effectively coordinate, supervise and evaluate the duties and responsibilities of subordinate personnel engaged in a wide-ranging spectrum of recreational sports and athletics programming. • Ability to work cooperatively with fellow staff, community representatives, private organizations, and special interest groups. • Ability to develop and implement effective management tools and prepare records and reports. • Ability to formulate budgets and maintain operations within the confines of existing budgetary allowances. • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

The Westmont Park District located in Westmont, IL has an opening for a Horticulturist position. The District serves approximately 25,000 residents with over 155 acres of parks, a 9 hole golf course, fitness center and offers over 1,000 programs each year.
Under the supervision of the Parks Foreman, the Horticulturist is responsible for the planning and installation of all landscaping, annual flowers, tree planting, memorial programs and general maintenance of the parks. The horticulturist will also be responsible for general tree trimming, pruning of shrubs and mulching in addition to other general park maintenance duties within the parks maintenance department. Ballfield maintenance, special events and snow removal is also included in the job description. Hours: Generally, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (1/2-hour lunch), Monday through Friday. Some weekend, holiday, and evening work will be required (varies with the season).
Minimum two-year associates degree in horticulture, landscape design or other related field preferred. Valid Illinois Driver’s License required along with own source of reliable transportation. Possess the ability to speak in public, with good written and verbal communication skills.
Background in design, landscape installation and maintenance is a must.
The hiring salary range is $40,000 - $45,000. Starting salary is DOQ. The Recreation Maintenance Technician works under the direction of the Facility Services Manager. Responsibilities include, but not limited to basic custodial and maintenance duties, daily/monthly/annual projects for the Rakow Center and all pools.
Completes routine preventive maintenance and inspections on all facility equipment and systems while being project oriented. Fulfills work requests and completes daily/monthly/yearly building projects in a timely and cost efficient manner. Contributes information regarding budget preparation for annual capital needs/budget assessment for all aquatics and Rakow Center. Provides basic custodial needs during shift such as basic housekeeping and deliveries as necessary. Utilizes established practices (such as computer or other programs) to determine daily cleaning needs, program set up and take downs of areas and equipment. Communicates the needs to various staff members as needed. Administers daily scheduled pool checks as required by the state, thru the calendar year and additionally during summer months. Checks the following and makes adjustments as necessary: Water Balance, Temperature Levels, Chemical Mixtures, Backwashing.
High School Diploma or equivalent, with college preferred. 2-3 years’ experience with commercial pools, whirlpool and water treatment or water chemistry. Certification as a pool operator, or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days. Basic knowledge of equipment repair and maintenance; working knowledge of basic electricity, plumbing and carpentry. Some understanding of operations in heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems. Knowledge of applicable biding codes of municipalities required. Valid Illinois Driver’s License.
Year round full-time position, 40 hours per week. Work hours are established 5:30am - 2:00pm. Tuesday thru Friday, and 7:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday, but may include additional hours during the summer.

FLSA Status: Exempt. The Recreation Specialist is a full-time employee with hours that fluctuate to accommodate evening or weekend programs and meetings.
Summary: The Adults with an Intellectual Disability (AWID) Recreation Specialist is responsible for the implementation of leisure services for individuals with a disability from child to adult. This position has an area of focus on programming for adults with intellectual disabilities but may work with individuals with a variety of disabilities. This position requires the application of specialized therapeutic training to formulate and administer a broad delivery of recreation services for individuals with disabilities without exclusion.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree plus knowledge and/or training in therapeutic recreation, special education, adaptive physical education or a related field. Knowledge of the recreational needs of persons with a disability without exclusion. Ability to complete NCTRC (National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification) or comparable certification within six (6) months of employment desired in addition to First Aid/CPR, AED and other certifications as required. A valid Illinois class “D” Driver’s License is required.
1) Plan, conduct, oversee, implement, and evaluate and/or assist recreation programs for individuals with disabilities. This includes but is not limited to implementation of lesson plans, adaptions, behavior management strategies and documentation including but not limited to budgeting, program evaluations and incident reports. It also includes gathering, loading, transporting, and set up of necessary program equipment.
2) Provide supervision of overall program, assisting staff, and participants. Participant supervision may include lifting and transferring, feeding, and other personal care. Provide physical and emotional support to children and adult with disabilities.
3) Safely transport participants of varying ages and abilities using agency vehicles.
4) Assist with agency-wide and Foundation events.
