Summer Recreation Intern

Job Summary:  
Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Recreation, the Recreation Intern will gain the knowledge necessary to be a successful, well-rounded professional. The internship will provide hands-on experience in District operations, administration, facility management, program management, and special events. This summer, the intern will be heavily involved in athletic leagues, programs, and tournaments while also having exposure to other areas based on their interests.

Hours:  Generally, Monday - Friday from 9 am - 5 pm with flexibility to work evenings and weekends. Interns typically work forty hours per week.
 
Qualifications and Training Expectations:
  • Current student pursuing a degree in Recreation, Leisure Studies, or a related field.
  • Familiarity and interest in various athletic programs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people and manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficient computer skills with the ability to learn and utilize new systems effectively.
  • Dependable and flexible with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Good physical condition, ability to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs., and able to be on your feet for extended periods of time.
  • Adequate sight including close, distance and peripheral vision to read manuals, operate and interpret equipment readings, and drive.
  • Adequate hearing to distinguish between various speech and equipment function, respond to alarms, follow directions, etc.
  • Regular exposure to various weather conditions including high heat and humidity, wind, rain, etc. 
  • A valid IL Driver’s License with the ability to safely operate vehicles and follow rules of the road. Familiarity with the Lombard Park District and neighboring areas is a plus.
  • Have or become certified in CPR/AED/First Aid within one month of hire.
  • Required to obtain and maintain Mandated Reporter Training, Sexual Harassment & Abuse Prevention Training as well as safety training as required.
