The Crystal Lake Park District offers one internship per year for currently enrolled university students in their senior year majoring in Parks, Recreation and Tourism. The selected intern will be expected to commit to 40 hours per week for 14 weeks. This program is designed to provide the intern with firsthand, valuable knowledge and experience of a public recreation agency. Students will be provided the opportunity to integrate and apply knowledge, theory and understanding from the academic setting to the working environment.
Interns will witness and assist in many of the different job aspects that public recreation agencies provide and will work with and for different supervisory staff during the internship. *Program planning as it relates to starting new programs, supervising current programs and evaluating past programs. *Facility management that includes programming, staff scheduling, supervision, maintenance, marketing and public relations. *Customer relations as an intern become involved with countless number of patrons and guests. *Park administration, which includes budgeting, finance, policy information, and public and professional meetings.
Intern hours will vary, depending on the weekly activities and special events; including nights and weekends when needed. Must produce a valid driver's license and vehicle insurance and provide own transportation.

General Description: Under the supervision of the Superintendent of Recreation, Assistant Superintendent of Recreation, and the Intern Supervisor, the Recreation Intern experience will be approximately: • 40% project oriented (2019 summer: Otter Cove concessions cart and Swanson concessions) • 30% experiential allowing for exploration into various program areas and recreation venues • 20% special interest designed in conjunction with the selected candidate • 10% professional development, including mentoring and networking
Job Requirements: The selected candidate must: • Work cooperatively and harmoniously with the general public, class participants, parents and fellow employees. • Display professionalism in oral and written communications. • Manage personal schedule, combining pre-scheduled activities, special events, meetings, and university requirements. • Work with Intern Supervisor to resolve difficult situations in a respectful, positive manner. • Attend weekend and evening programs and/or special events, as required. • Provide timely, accurate paperwork and reporting. • Lead small and large groups of patrons or staff in activities, as directed. • Encourage the safety of all program participants and fellow staff by following Park District Safety Guidelines.

The Glencoe Park District Recreation Internship provides a comprehensive experience of district operations including administration, programming, employee supervision, facility management, camps, aquatics, ice rink (seasonal), special events, marketing and maintenance based on the interests of the intern and needs of the Park District.
Qualifications: Currently working towards a college degree in Parks and Recreation or related field. Knowledge of the theories, practices, and philosophies of community recreational programming.
Recreation Intern must possess exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to maintain exceptional working relationships with peers, community groups, volunteers, independent contractors, co-workers, staff, supervisors and the public.
Hours: Intern hours will vary, depending on the weekly activities and special events; however, the Intern will work approximately 40 hours per week, including nights and weekends when needed.
Qualifications: Must be a student of an accredited university pursuing a bachelors or masters degree in Recreation, Leisure Services or a related field. All the necessary requirements must be met with respective college or university to be eligible. Must have a valid drivers license. First-Aid/CPR/AED certification is preferred, but will train.
Duties: The Winfield Park District is offering a professional internship to students working towards a degree within the field of parks and recreation. The internship will provide a well rounded experience in park district operations, administration, public recreation, safety, facility management, special events, fiscal management, marketing, maintenance and program management.
Internship opportunities are available in the spring, summer and fall.
